GROUNDS was born from a simple question: What if coffee waste could become something useful?

The story begins with our coffee partner, Java House, a coffee manufacturer founded in 2018 based in Indianapolis, IN. Java House produces and distributes coffee products enjoyed by customers across the country. Brewing millions of gallons of coffee each year also meant producing millions of pounds of spent coffee grounds - and we knew there had to be a better solution than sending them to a landfill.

That challenge sparked the idea behind GROUNDS.

After nearly a year of testing coffee grounds in different product applications, we discovered something unexpected: they worked incredibly well as animal bedding. Recycled coffee grounds naturally help control odors in poultry living spaces, resist breaking down into dusty material, and clump around droppings for quick and easy cleanup. Even better, once the bedding has been used, it can be composted or returned to the soil.

Today, GROUNDS is transforming what was once waste into a practical, natural solution for animal owners while keeping valuable organic material out of landfills.
